SeMPowisko 2024

Are you a student of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, geography, or a related field? Or perhaps you’re not a student yet, but you’re eager to listen to scientific and popular science presentations from these disciplines? Maybe you’re an SMP graduate and want to find out what has changed since you completed your studies? If you answered affirmatively to any of the above questions, we invite you to the SeMPowisko 2024 conference, which this year will be combined with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Mathematical and Natural Sciences Studies.

This year’s 22nd edition of our conference will take place from April 18 to April 21, 2024, in a hybrid format – both in-person at the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy, and Applied Computer Science at the Jagiellonian University and at the Auditorium Maximum, as well as remotely on the Microsoft Teams platform.

REGISTRATION

To participate in our conference, simply fill out a short form.

Registration form

Call for Abstracts

After submitting the form, you will receive an email confirming the acceptance of your submission. Please carefully check the entered data, as they will appear in the abstract book and on certificates exactly as entered. In case of any errors, please contact us promptly.

After closing the registration and reviewing all submissions in terms of content, we will contact the participants to confirm the acceptance of their presentation/poster at the conference.

About a week before the conference, you will receive an email asking for confirmation of your attendance. Only those who confirm their presence and pay the conference fee (up to PLN 30, details of payment will be provided soon) will be registered (Remote participants attend for free).

PRESENTATIONS

We invite all students to deliver presentations, both in-person and online. This year, we anticipate three types of presentations – long (25 minutes), short (15 minutes), and express (10 minutes). The number of long presentations is limited, so we reserve the right to select the most interesting abstracts if there are more submissions than available slots.

Presentations should meet several conditions:

  1. The presentation should be in English. Presentations in other languages will be rejected.
  2. The presentation should take a maximum of 10 minutes (express)/15 minutes (short)/25 minutes (long). Afterward, there will be time for a short (4–7 minutes) discussion.
  3. The registration form should include information about the presentation title and a brief abstract (300–1200 characters). Two main bibliography items will be welcomed in the comments.
  4. Organizers reserve the right to reject a presentation if it is deemed non-scientific or non-popular science, or if the number of submissions is too high.

We will inform you by email about the acceptance of your presentation after the registration ends.

POSTER SESSION

On the penultimate day of the conference, there will be a poster session. We encourage you to prepare your posters, and those interested are asked to fill in the relevant fields in the registration form.

The poster session will take place in the corridor of the FAIS UJ department. Organizers will provide special easels for posters. During the designated time slot, presenters will be able to stand by their posters and talk about them to interested participants. Participants not presenting posters will be invited to view posters and engage in discussions with their authors.

Formal requirements for posters:

  1. The poster should have a format no smaller than A2 and no larger than A0.
  2. Presented posters can be either overview-oriented or based on individual research results.
  3. Active participation in the poster session is only possible in-person. If you want to present a poster remotely, we encourage you to submit it as a presentation (express or short).
  4. The registration form should include information about the presentation title and a brief abstract (300–1200 characters). Two main bibliography items will be welcomed in the comments.
